Announcing “Tiny Writes” — An Interactive Writing Project
Newmarket, NH May 25th 2018 – Tiny Writes is an interactive writing exhibit at Millspace: A Center for Art, History, & Culture. Organized by 2018 Millspace Arts & Culture Laureate Carand Burnet, the two-part project promotes collaboration between community members and poets. Starting in May, visitors to Millspace will be encouraged to write a line responding to mini scenes staged inside shadowboxes. These lines will be used as inspiration by poets to create new work.
The Tiny Writes opening reception is May 25th, 5-8 PM, and the closing reception is July 7th, 5-8 PM. The gallery, located at 55 Main Street, is open for public viewing during the weekends of June 9th & 10th and June 30th & July 1st from 12-7 PM. A celebration reading will be held on September 14th, from 5-8 PM. The exhibit is free and open to all ages.
Burnet is one of the two inaugural Millspace Arts & Culture Laureates. Millspace, a 5,400 sq. ft. venue in downtown Newmarket, promotes experimentation in the form of interdisciplinary exhibits, performance, workshops, and more. Burnet’s laureateship also includes informal writing nights and a poetry film screening to occur later in the year.
Additionally, on Monday May 21st, 6 PM, Burnet will read her poetry as part of Writer’s In The Round on Portsmouth Community Radio (WSCA 106.1 FM). Burnet said, “The Seacoast has a wealth of literary talent, and I am excited to bring that creative energy to Newmarket. Tiny Writes is designed to help the public feel more comfortable writing and brings attention to the power of language in our everyday lives.”
