Tiny Writes: A Celebration Reading of Verse, Visual Art, & Community

Poetry That Pays Attention:
An Evening of Verse and Visual Art

Newmarket, NH — The public is invited to attend Tiny Writes: a celebration of writing and art. The event will take place at Millspace: A Center for Art, History, & Culture on Friday, September 14th.  Door open at 5 PM. At 6 PM a reading will feature twenty-three writers living in NH, MA, & ME. The celebration, organized by Millspace Arts & Culture Laureate Carand Burnet, will feature notable writers such as current Portsmouth Poet Laureate Mike Nelson and former Portsmouth Poet Laureates Mark DeCarteret and Kate Leigh.

Tiny Writes is a two-part project that promotes cross-collaboration with the writing community and the general public. From May to June, visitors to Millspace wrote lines in response to poetry-themed dioramas. These lines were used by poets to create new verse. Additional readers will include Sarah Anderson, Bethanie Beausoleil, Wendy Cannella, Kathleen Clancy, Nicholas Coulombe, Todd Dowey, Amy Fukuizumi, Alison Harville, Matt Jasper, Marybeth McNamara, Phil Montenegro, Jessica Purdy, Cyndle Plaisted Rials, Jim Rioux, Holly Wren Spaulding, S Stephanie, Lauren Vermette, Jeff Volk, and Jess Waters.

Millspace, a 5,400 sq. ft. multidisciplinary venue in downtown Newmarket promotes experimentation in the form of exhibits, performances, workshops, and more. Tiny Writes is the pilot project of the Arts & Culture Laureate Program. Burnet said, “In a diversionary time, poetry readings are needed more than ever to help bring people together. Tiny Writes connects creatives with the community in a positive way. By assembling this ambitious group of writers, I hope that those unfamiliar with poetry will attend and be inspired by this wealth of local literary talent.”
