Carand Burnet (she/her) is a musician and artist. She is the bandleader of Kioea, and performs solo under the project name Angel Lake. Founded in 2019, Kioea blends surf music with psychedelic and global inspirations and is named after a Hawaiian word that means “Stand Tall.”
Kioea’s self-titled EP, released in May 2022, was selected as a “New and Notable” on Bandcamp. Editorial Director J. Edward Keyes writes, “Dazzling guitar work forms the centerpiece of the new EP… featuring exploratory songs that hold a tight grip.” The Arts Fuse reviewer Jason M. Rubin adds, “The gently authoritative sound of leader Carand Burnet’s surf guitar takes the listener on journeys of their own, all of which feeds a desire to hear more.”
Burnet is known for her performances that feature energetic, complex guitar solos. She has played at venues including The Music Hall in Portsmouth, NH and was featured on WMUR’s Summer Concert Series.
Burnet performs solo under the alias Angel Lake and uses the guitar, sitar, and keyboard to compose songs reminiscent of indie, surf, and ambient music. Her song “Amber,” was featured on 92.5 FM The River’s Homegrown Music Showcase. She is an interdisciplinary artist, sews vintage inspired clothing, and helps run an art program called BIG INK.
