Blackout Poetry Activity at The Newmarket Public Library

1 Elm St, Newmarket, NH 03857

Thursday, July 12th, 10:30 – 11:30 AM

Free Family Activity.

Take part in this interactive workshop and make a “Blackout Poem.” This hands-on activity uses markers to black out text on found material, such as old newspapers and magazines. Burnet, Newmarket’s 2018 Millspace Arts & Culture Laureate and organizer of the Tiny Writes Community Poetry Project, will lead the activity and give basic background about this technique. Participants will get to mark-out, cut, and re-arrange text to inspire creations through the use of subtraction. Toward the end of the class, we may share aloud what we have made. See where the words take you!
